Typical Applications 440C is used for bearings, nozzles, wear parts of pumps, mold inserts, knives, surgical tools, etc. 440C is used for severe service such as valves, needle valves, balls and seats for check valves and ball bearings. 440C resists scaling up to 1200° F in continuous service and resists corrosion from fresh water steam, crude oil, gasoline, and resists staining from fruit and food acids. Maximum resistance is obtained by hardening and polishing. Grade: 440
